Resignation of Rob Harper our Chairperson.

It is with regret that we have to announce the resignation of Rob Harper our Chairperson who has been in post for the new era of the AADI since the change from DIDU.

As so many will know Rob has given great service to the ADI industry for so many years through the various post he has held and his time spent negotiating on behalf of many of our colleagues with the Dept. of Transport, the DSA and the DVSA., many owe their livelihoods to Rob's efforts behind the scenes.

Rob has decided to take time out and spend more time with his family and his local community where he has become very well known for all the activities he has taken part in and his work with the local schools for all the children in his area.

Many thanks for all you have done for your colleagues Rob, we will miss you but wish you all the very best for the future.

New Chair of the AADI.

Following the resignation Of Rob Harper we are happy to announce the election of a new Chair for the AADI and that is Margaret Houlihan.

Margaret has given many years of service to the ADI community, previously as a member of DIDU in the past and then as an EC member she will be familiar to many of the members.

Margaret has sat on the EC as Secretary since the change to the AADI and has been busy keeping the rest of the EC in line and keeping records.

Margaret will officially take office from 1st June, though has already assumed the role to ease the transfer of chairmanship.

With Margaret moving from Secretary to Chair we have a new Secretary by the name of Mick Duncan  who has been elected to the post of Secretary to the AADI. Mick brings many years of experience to the post as an active member of the EC in the past and we look forward to working with him even more in his new role as Secretary to the AADI.

ADIs

All of our members are fully qualified to DVSA ADI status (unless PDIs) and many with considerably higher qualifications, and are there for you to ask for assistance should you need it.

If there is anything that you would like to ask, there is a contact box on the right for you to drop us a line.

Or if you are member of the AADI you could join us on Facebook which is open only to current members who wish to join us on there.

PDIs

We are looking at having our more senior ADIs mentoring any PDIs who join the group.

Have you got an idea you would like to air? Then use the box on the right to drop us a line and we'll see what we can do to include it.

For PDIs the membership is on a six monthly basis to coincide with your licence and is just £15 for the period, great value for money.

You will also have access to our Facebook page which is exclusive to current members only.

Road Safety Officers

Road safety officers are a new section that we are looking into becoming involved with in the association and hope to have more information in the near future.

However, if you are a road safety officer and feel that you may have something you could offer then please feel free to get intouch. Maybe an article or information that you may like to put out there.

Emergency help

Should our members need  support then we plan to go the extra mile to help them out with issues relating to the job.

There have been several issues over the years where our members have been able to offer ADIs support and advice and  we have a situation ongoing at the moment.

Drop us a line with your ideas/comments

Your message will be picked up and dealt with as soon as we have someone available.

News from the DVSA

The DVSA are currently running with the the new issue of #MeToo where the problem of sexual harassment arose within the film industry and are now concerned of similar issues within the driver trainer industry.

This is beginning to become more and more of a news item coming up on the BBC radio on more than one occasion, which is a bit rich with their track record on the issue.

The DVSA have their latest Blog on the matter by a guest writer and it can be found here .

There is a lot of talk going on, I keep hearing whispers in the wind, about disciplinary action being taken against ADIs unfairly or even arbitrarily and nobody seems to know what to do, or worse where to go.

Firstly,if you are a member of an association get onto them straight away, contact CAB or a solicitor and most certainly do not sit on your tail feeling sorry for yourself and do nothing.

Here is a link that all ADIs and PDIs should read and understand.

Road Safety News
The EU parliament has voted through a new raft of measures for minimum vehicle standards to protect all road users, particularly the vulnerable. You will probably have seen a few of the comments in social media on this, well here is the true article.

I am sorry but whether your politics are politically aligned with leave, or stay, we have to agree that the EU have done an awful lot to promote road safety. Unfortunately there is the argument put forward by many that a lot of people have had a good ride on the expenses train and it could have been done a lot cheaper. My view is that if one life has been saved then it is money well spent and it has given us unity throughout the EU/ Europe that we didn't have before. By and large the rules for minimum standards are fairly uniform across the block, whether it is applied uniformly or not is another matter.
One of my favourites is in the regulation on tyres, if only we could get completely rid of the second hand tyre market.

November 2019

With the current autumnal conditions being the worst that we have seen for years, having been increasing steadily for the last couple of years, now would be a good time to get your pupils to plan for the winter and think ahead.
Point out that they can download the BBC weather app onto their phones, others are available of course and they can get fairly accurate and more importantly, local weather reports that are updated hourly.
Run through the importance of the FLOWERS checks and their frequency. Reduce the load in the car by getting rid of all the clutter that has collected in the boot over the summer and replace with all the stuff you need if you may get caught out.
Go onto the gov.uk page for highways and get the notifications for road/traffic delays and roadworks updates.

Get the care you need, from professionals who are leaders in their fields.

Tech News and new developments

Today we see a lot in the news about Google and Huawei and Google stopping Huawei getting access to their apps. Any of you guys out there need not worry too much as our phones will not be packing in overnight. The talks at the moment apply to future agreements and all existing phones will be working ok for the foreseeable future.
The only time it will affect (us) is when they release a new design or when a new update is released in the future.
All this normally goes on behind the scenes anyway and most would not even know it has happened. Should your phone ever be at risk of losing whatsapp, Facebook or Instagram or any of the other apps we can be sure that we will get good notice.
Anyway I am willing to bet that Huawei are working on solution to this already (possibly since last year, or before) to get around this. Can you imagine a company as huge as they are not to be looking at their own system to be totally independent of anyone outside China, I think not.
